The pace has slowed. You spend less time trying to figure out how to market your offers, what to charge for your service, and how to wow your clients.

And, you’re starting to wonder what might be next for you.

Your vision has evolved. You’ve glimpsed new possibilities. Or, you might be starting to think there’s something more out there for you and this company you’ve created but you have little idea what that might be.

This is an exciting time.

Over the years, my own vision has changed dramatically. In the beginning, I was just trying to make some latte money. But as time went on, I realized that I could build something bigger than myself—something that could impact thousands of people and support a team of creative, mission-driven folks.

I couldn’t have found that new vision and built the different iterations of my business without asking “What’s next?”.

My vision might be quite different from your vision.

And that’s exactly the point.

While so much of starting a business is the same for many different people. What’s next is always dependent on what you’ve learned, what matters most to you, and what possibilities you’re ready to explore.

Together, we can figure out what’s next for you and your business.

I’ve been working with small business owners on the verge of “what’s next” for over a decade. And what I can tell you is that, while the vision each business owner has is different, the process of clarifying that vision and operationalizing needed changes is the same.

By systematically working through the core components of a strong business, you can get a clear picture of what you’ve figured out to this point and what’s next for your business so you can start working toward it now.

That’s what the What’s Next virtual retreat is all about.

If I peer into my crystal ball (every good business strategist has one), I can’t see exactly what your business is going to look like next—but I’m quite certain that it runs smoothly, causes fewer headaches, and makes a positive impact on you and your community.

Oh, and it makes good money, too.

Together, we can create a plan for what’s next that’s ambitious and reasonable. We’ll build systems that are effective and sustainable. We’ll consider options for both growth and rest.

And as we go, we’ll address the underlying beliefs, assumptions, and habits that can become obstacles on the way to becoming a stronger CEO.

  • Find a sense of groundedness and support—because things can so easily feel like they’re taking on a life of their own (and not always in a good way)

What’s Included With The What’s Next Virtual Retreat

What’s Next is a 3-day virtual retreat, July 14-16, that walks you through how to take a business that “works” and make it stronger, more sustainable, and more aligned with your goals.

You’ll assess your current business, identify opportunities for growth or improvement, and plan your next steps.

You will walk away with a unique vision for what’s next for you, as well as a set of projects to work on to help you get there.

Our goal for you is to identify at least 6 concrete improvements or changes for your business that you can tackle over the next 6 months.

Each day will consist of 2 group coaching sessions, a working session, a breakout group session, and a Q&A and hot seat coaching session. Our goal is to provide the learning & exploration you need in a short period of time—while also creating a strong container for you to think and plan.

Before the retreat, you’ll receive some homework so that I can get to know you and what you’re thinking about in terms of what’s next for your business. You’ll complete this homework at least 1 week before the retreat so that I can review it and offer some focusing questions or feedback for you. You’ll know what you want to pay close attention to as we move through the retreat.

You’ll also get access to a dedicated Slack channel beginning on July 7th. In this space, you can chat with other participants, share your work, and request feedback. I’ll check in throughout each week to answer questions or weigh in on your thinking. We’ll leave this Slack open through September 1 so you have plenty of time to follow up with me and your fellow retreatants.

Finally, you’ll get access to a personalized Notion dashboard filled with easy access to our retreat sessions, Slack channel, and planning tools.

This experience is designed for a small group—about 12-15 participants.

About Me & How I Work

I have over a decade of experience working with coaches, consultants, therapists, lawyers, designers, educators, writers, and more. I’ve personally run and grown successful lines of business in coaching, training, digital products, and productized services. My training and thought leadership have been featured on Forbes, Inc, Fast Company, Copyblogger, Being Boss, and The Huffington Post. I’m also a bestselling small business instructor on CreativeLive.

I bring a varied background to working on small businesses like yours—drawing from my education in religion and philosophy, my experience in fitness and endurance training, and my interests in science and politics.

I’m a wife, mom, feminist, writer, runner, climber, political junkie, and podcast geek.

About You & Your Business

You’ve got some experience under your belt—at least 2 or 3 years of experience running your business, to be exact.

Your business is financially stable. You might not feel like Scrooge McDuck diving into his vault (probably a good thing…) but you feel like you can rely on the revenue from your business—or your ability to drum up new sales if things get slow.

You have some confidence in what you’ve built. You’re proud of where you’ve arrived at this point in your journey. You’re not trying to fix major problems. You’re exploring where you want to go from here.

You are a decisive action-taker who appreciates some structure and guidance when it comes to deciding what steps to take action on. You know you thrive in a small group that balances learning with time to think, plan, and ask lots of questions.

Note: There’s no need to be an outgoing extrovert or verbal processor to get the most out of this experience. You’ll have opportunities to get feedback synchronously and asynchronously, verbally as well as via chat, and time to process before you ask questions. We do our best to create an environment that’s inclusive of introverts, neurodivergent individuals, and different types of learners.   • 5pm ET/2pm PT – Q&A and Hot Seat Coaching – Crowdcast

I’ll be leading the Group Coaching Sessions where we’ll dig into the tools you can use to figure out what’s next for your business and talk through different scenarios to consider. I’ll help you work through assumptions, notice common pitfalls, and see things from a fresh perspective.

The Working Sessions and Breakout Group Sessions will be hosted by our Community Advocate, Shannon Paris. These sessions will give you the space you need to focus on you and your business.

And then we’ll wrap up each day with Q&A and Hot Seat Coaching. If you prefer to ask questions and listen to my response, that’s excellent. If you want to volunteer for the hot seat and work something through with me live, that’s excellent, too! This session is designed to support you in the way you prefer to be supported.

We’ll cover these components of business-building live during the retreat:

As you discover what’s next for you, I’ll offer additional resources, tools, and guidance in our Slack channel.

Remember: our goal is that you complete the retreat with at least 6 concrete changes or improvements you want to make in the 6 months.

You might decide to:

  • Eliminate 2 of your offers
  • Double the capacity of your most profitable offer
  • Build out new messaging for your main offer using a stronger value proposition
  • Focus on 2 main marketing channels and eliminate excess energy spent on marketing
  • Rebuild your client on-boarding system to eliminate headaches
  • Write job descriptions for 2 new hires and start the hiring process
  • Take a strategic risk to narrow your audience and focus on a specific market

What you decide to do next is up to you—but we’ll provide the structure, guidance, and support you need to figure out what’s next for you and your business.

Ready for What’s Next?

The investment for the What’s Next Virtual Retreat is $2000.

Once you’ve completed your payment, you’ll fill out a short questionnaire to share some initial details about you, your business, and what you’re looking to accomplish.

If we have any questions or concerns about fit, we’ll let you know ASAP and refund your retreat fee if it turns out your business isn’t a great match.

From there, you’ll receive your initial homework toward the end of June, along with your personal Notion Dashboard. You’ll receive your invitation to Slack on July 7th.

 

You might be wondering…

How much can I really get done in 3 days?

Well, a lot and a little. Our goal isn’t really to get stuff done—it’s to identify your next steps. By working intensively over 3 days, you can see the bigger picture of your business and how each component influences the others.

We’ll emphasize decision-making over skill-building so that you’re processing what you’re learning through the choices you’re making.

Once we’re done, you can continue to use the Slack channel for support and feedback through September 1. So there’s lots more time to make your moves with the group!

What if I can’t make the retreat live?

Live participation is key. If you know now that you can’t make most of the live retreat sessions, this isn’t the right time for you to register.

If you register and a conflict comes up before June 25, we’ll refund your retreat fee so that we can fill your spot with someone who is able to participate live.

If you register and a conflict comes up between June 26-July 7th, we’ll accept a transfer of your registration but you’ll be responsible for finding that person.

After July 7th, there are no refunds or transfers so that we can focus on the group who will be retreating with us.

Do you offer a payment plan?

At this time, there isn’t a specified payment plan. However, if you meet all of the criteria for participation but need accommodations for payment, please let us know and we can likely work it out! We’re not offering scholarships or discounts.

Do I belong here?

Oof. This is the big question, right? If you’ve read the About You & Your Business section and jive with what’s there, you belong. There is no particular revenue threshold or indicator of success you need to participate.

You should also know that we actively work to create group experiences that are welcoming for people who are often underestimated due to race, faith, class, physical impairment, age, gender, sexuality, and neurology.

We also take a stand on building a strong business without relying on endless hustle, unsustainable productivity, either/or thinking, scarcity, meritocracy, individualism, or domination.

What are the options for coaching & support beyond the What’s Next Virtual Retreat?

In addition to Slack channel access through September 1, you’ll have the option of joining The What Works Network to continue your what’s next journey.

You’ll also have the option to purchase a follow-up strategy session with me before December 31 for $750. We can go over your plans, work through a challenge on the horizon, and/or clear up a part of your vision that’s still fuzzy.
