Money & The New Economy | A What Works Online Gathering

The Way We Earn, Invest, Save, And Spend Is Changing

Let’s Talk About It

Money & The New Economy is a live online gathering of small business owners exploring how we use and relate to money in a changing economy.

The “rules” of money have changed.

Most of what we learned about money as kids doesn’t apply to us today.

Most of what we learned about money from the personal finance gurus doesn’t apply to us as business owners.

And, in a rapidly changing economy, even most of what we thought we knew about money is called into question: how it’s made, what to save, where to spend it, how to share it.

So it’s time to talk about money and the New Economy.

On June 10-12, we’re gathering a global community of small business owners to dig deep into the ways that money shapes our businesses, our lives, and our communities.

About The Conference

Money & The New Economy is a live & interactive online gathering.

The purpose of the conference is to reexamine our assumptions about money (including how we earn it & spend it) in an uncertain economy–as well as how we use business to participate in building stronger communities.

The What Works virtual conferences are always a MUST for me. I wall off the day… not just to attend each of the amazingly-curated sessions but also to IMPLEMENT all the a-ha moments for hours afterward.

Tara brilliantly guides us through exactly the convos we wish we knew we needed to have with these awesome people and the discussions with fellow members before, during, and after the conferences are incredibly rich and rewarding.

I treat the What Works virtual conferences as immersion days for my business. It’s an investment I look forward to every quarter!

I love the What Works virtual conferences. Beyond the actionable information from knowledgable speakers, the attendees all contribute to the conversation and ask thought-provoking questions. The virtual space you create is AMAZING!

What Makes Money & The New Economy Different

This online gathering is not another rehashing of why you should “charge what you’re worth” or set higher money goals.

It’s a hyper-relevant deep dive into a new conversation about money—one that’s informed by the rapid changes to everything we know about the marketplace and the economy that we’re experiencing right now.

We endeavor to create a hopeful, curious space to ask challenging and provocative questions about money.

To do so, the whole experience is being shaped by:

  • Carefully curated conversations with thoughtful speakers & facilitators
  • An intentional structure for exploration and transformation
  • A proven framework for connecting, expanding, and reflecting on what you’ve learned

Our Community

This gathering is designed to connect you with a community of small business owners who are thinking about (and acting on) money differently.

We’re founders, creators, service providers, designers, artists, educators, and trainers. We operate businesses of one, as well as businesses that employ small teams. Many of us have been running our businesses for 5 years or more.

When you join us, you’ll be learning from our speakers, of course. And, you’ll also be learning from other attendees. You’ll share your experiences and they’ll learn from you, too.

Our Venue

We’re gathering together on 2 interactive platforms: Crowdcast & Zoom.

Our keynote sessions, as well as opening remarks, integration session, and closing remarks will be hosted on Crowdcast. This platform allows you to chat with other attendees, ask our speakers questions, and access almost-immediate replays.

Our workshops and breakout discussions, as well as our welcome reception, will be hosted on Zoom. Zoom allows you to jump right into the conversation by participating on or off video, on or off mic. You’ll be able to ask questions, share your experience, and chat along with other attendees.

All Are Welcome

One of our strategic goals as a company and community is to welcome more people from diverse backgrounds into The What Works Network.

While our community is predominantly white, we’re working hard to create an experience that’s welcoming to every business owner who is a good fit–regardless of race, sexuality, gender, or ability.

Please reach out directly if you have any concerns about whether this event is a good fit for you: community@explorewhatworks.com

What Works is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, age, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of participants or our team in any form.

Get Your Ticket

Tickets for Money & The New Economy are $150 (USD).

We know a lot of online conferences are free–so we want to explain why we’re charging for this one.

First, we’re paying each of our speakers and panelists while the industry standard has been to ask people to speak for free. Second, free online conferences have often been organized with a priority for reach & size rather than experience & quality. We’re focused on creating meaningful, high-quality experience.

Finally, we’ve been hosting online conferences for 3 years–this is the 12th we’ve hosted at The What Works Network. We know the value of gathering together, joining in an important conversation, and sharing your experiences with the group.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are sessions recorded?

Yes! Every session will be recorded. You’ll get lifetime access to each session.

Our opening & closing receptions may include breakout rooms and recordings won’t include that segment.

Please keep in mind that we’re creating this event to be interactive and participatory. We hope you’ll prioritize attending live for as many sessions as you can if you purchase a ticket.

What's your refund policy?

There are no refunds or transfers.

What kind of technology do I need to participate?

For the best experience, you’ll want a relatively high-speed internet connection.

  • Crowdcast (keynotes & integration session) does allow for a lower-speed connection via a toggle for video quality.
  • Zoom allows you to call in via a phone line to support a lower-speed connection.

You’re welcome to participate on or off camera, on or off mic. There will be options for chatting along and asking questions via text in each session.

Do you offer payment options based on need?

Yes! We know this is a tough time for a lot of business owners.

We’re asking that if you have the means to pay for the conference to please purchase a ticket at full price. This helps us pay our speakers, our team, and our software partners.

If you don’t currently have the means to purchase a ticket, we ask that you confirm you meet the following criteria and then follow the instructions below:

  • Your business has experienced a significant financial loss because of the Covid-19 crisis.
  • Under normal circumstances, you would happily invest in an experience like this.
  • You’ve been in business at least 18 months.
  • You have a product or service that sold well before the current economic situation.
  • You’ll attend at least 80% of our live programming (June 10-12, 2020) and actively participate in a way that feels comfortable to you.

If you meet each of those criteria, click “Register Now” and then enter the coupon code BACKONMYFEET at checkout for a complimentary ticket to the conference.
